BioProcess Principles

Bioprocessing Technology is an interdisciplinary scientific and technological challenge that integrates molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics and chemical engineering among others  into a single discipline focused at using novel natural or genetically modified microorganisms for production of ever increasing range of commercial products from relatively inexpensive simple commodity chemical materials such as alcohols, organic acids, fuels, food and feed ingredients to expensive specialty chemicals such as vitamins antibiotics, therapeutic proteins and vaccines. The objective of FermAxiom LLC is to highlight and relate selected BioProcess Technology Principles including selected topics covering: Material Balance, Energy Balance, Mass Transfers, Unit Operations, Homogeneous Reactions, Heterogeneous Reactions, Reactor Engineering and Data Analysis for the benefit of our business partners or research associates engaged in ethanol fermentation process development, validation and optimization of industrial processes.

Ethanol Fementation Technology

Classically, the term Fermentation has been often used to describe natural combined yeast metabolic processes occurring in absence of oxygen. In these combined catabolic reactions the bioconversion of sugars such as glucose to alcohol (ethanol) occurs as the function of energy production associated meatbolism. The Alcohol Fermentation Process is the defining example for the range of the fermentation processes where in the absence of oxygen given microorganisms can convert sugars to organic chemical such alcohols: Ethanol or organic acids: Lactic Acid, which have been utilized since antiquity in preservation or modification of foods as well as sources of alcoholic beverages. The objective of FermAxiom LLC is to describe in detail the critical molecular and biochemical aspects of ethanol fermentation processes focused on quantification and control of various metabolic processes. Processes such as Batch, Fed-Batch, Semi-Continuous and Continuous Fermentation processes are revied in depth.

Microbial Biomass Propagation

Providing relevant focused reference materials collection addressing production of microbial biomass inoculums and biomass products is the principal goal of FermAxiom LLC. Various technologies and regulatory environment permitting the use of natural as well as genetically modified Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast strains is reviewed in depth. Providing specific examples, the bioprocess variables options impacting biocatalytic activity and compositional characteristics of such microbial inoculums specifically designed for ethanol fermentations are critical and carefully considered. The depth of reference materials provides for an unparallel and focused approach at understanding and performance quantification associated with developing and manufacturing of optimal yeast biomass inoculums required for maximized ethanol fermentation performance.  In addition, standardized microbiological, molecular biology and chemical analytical methods used for quantification of yeast biomass are provided.
